What to expect when competing in U.S. college rugby:

Spring Semester:
  • Rugby is a Winter sport for women, played in the middle of the U.S. school year.
  • Games are usually played between December and May.
  • You can expect to play approximately 25-30 games in an average season.
Fall Semester:
  • The Fall semester is the off-season for Rugby .
  • You can expect to practice a maximum of 8 hours a week during fall.
  • In addition to training, practice games may be scheduled in preparation for the upcoming season.

 Women’s Rugby programs participate within the NCAA and NAIA.

NCAA – National Collegiate Athletic Association

The NCAA endorses three divisions of women’s collegiate rugby.

Division I
  • Currently sponsor 8 women’s rugby programs
  • 12 full rugby scholarships are available per women’s college rugby team
Division II
  • Currently sponsor 6 women’s rugby programs
  • 12 full rugby scholarships are available per women’s college rugby team
Division III
  • Currently sponsor 4 women’s rugby programs
  • Financial aid is available but is not considered rugby scholarship
NAIA – National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics

The NAIA endorses one division of women’s collegiate rugby.

  • Currently sponsor 2 women’s college rugby programs
  • Financial aid is available but is not considered rugby scholarship
