What to expect when competing in U.S. college tennis:

Fall Semester

  • The Fall semester is the individual season for tennis.
  • You can expect to practice a maximum of 8 hours a week during the Fall.
  • Your schedule will feature individual or small group practices.
  • Weight lifting and conditioning will be required in addition to normal on-court practice

Spring Semester

  • Tennis is a Spring sport for team play, played in the second half of the U.S. school year.
  • Dual Matches are usually between January and May.
  • You can expect approximately 25 team matches in an average season.
  • Dual matches consist of 3 doubles and 6 singles matches.

Women’s tennis programs all over the U.S. participate under all governing bodies and divisions.

NCAA

The NCAA endorses three divisions of women’s collegiate tennis.

Division I
  • Currently sponsor 317 women’s college tennis programs
  • 8 full tennis scholarships are available per women’s college tennis team
Division II
  • Currently sponsor 224 women’s college tennis programs
  • 6 full tennis scholarships available per women’s college tennis team
Division III
  • Currently sponsor 370 women’s college tennis programs
  • Financial aid is available but is not considered tennis scholarship

NJCAA

The NJCAA endorses three divisions of women’s collegiate tennis.

  • Currently sponsor 133 women’s college tennis programs across three divisions
  • full tennis scholarships available across all divisions

 

NAIA

The NAIA endorses one division of women’s collegiate tennis.

  • Currently sponsor 112 women’s college tennis programs
  • 5 full tennis scholarships available per women’s college tennis team
